From the Tee

Hole #
3

The straight away, 510 yard Par 5 is the most challenging of the par 5's at Oakland's Golf Club. From the tips you need a decent drive out through the chute, past the tree line to ensure a clean layup to the 100 yard marker. It takes an excellent drive to put you in a position to attempt to get home in 2. Even at that you run a high risk of landing in the water which runs along both sides of the approach as well as the green. There are no green side bunkers to protect the green but the water hazards more than make for it.

The green itself is narrow and undulating, dropping off both the front and back making it necessary to approach this green with a high shot to prevent your ball from rolling off the back or sides of the green into a deep rough. Coming off the tee, the trees are thick on both sides of the chute and sporadic yet strategically placed along both sides of the fairway after that. The only advantage to this hole is that the normal prevailing winds put the wind at your back on most days.
