Hole #8
The Par 4, 331 yard, 8th hole is one of the shorter par 4's at
Oaklands but far from the easiest. The shot from the back tees requires accuracy
as a poorly struck drive will not carry the water. A poorly aimed drive may
clear the water but find its way into the large fescue area that occupies the
majority of the area past the water to within 30 yards of the green. A well hit
drive aimed at the center will most likely carry the fairway and find its way
into the water trap placed at average driving depth to the left. The best shot
here is a utility wood or mid iron to the 125 yard marker.
The green itself is tough as well. It is 2-tiered and long but not very deep to the normal approach. The green is well protected with a sand bunker along the entire front side and mounded rough hugging the back side. Deep fescue protects the entire left side of the approach.
